Course Objective

PRojects IN Controlled Environments (PRINCE2®) is a de facto process-based method for effective project management.

The PRINCE2® Foundation Level introduces the PRINCE2® method. The Foundation certification aims to confirm that you know and understand the PRINCE2® method well enough to be able to work effectively with, or as a member of, a project management team working within an environment supporting PRINCE2®.

PRINCE2® was developed as a UK government standard for information systems projects.

What is PRINCE2®?

  • PRINCE2® is a structured project management method and practitioner certification program. PRINCE2® emphasizes dividing projects into manageable and controllable stages
  • Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification is more prevalent in USA, South America and North American countries where as PRINCE2® is preferred in the UK, Australia and the European countries. PRINCE2® portrayed as a “methodology” and the PMP® is portrayed as a “standard” – which can be used alongside each other. In practice, companies and practitioners choose one system or both depending on the project environment, their geographical location and costs involved.
  • AXELOS® published an updated edition of the  PRINCE2® guidance in May 2017. This revised version of PRINCE2® affirms the method’s established approach to project management, with its overall structure of seven principles, themes and processes

Prerequisite: A general understanding about project and project management will be sufficient. There is no prerequisite criterion for pursuing PRINCE2® Foundation certification.

  • Starting Up A Project, in which the project team is appointed including an executive and a project manager, and a project brief is produced
  • Initiating A Project, in which the business case refined and Project Initiation Documentation assembled
  • Directing A Project, which dictates the ways in which the Project Board oversees the project
  • Controlling A Stage, which dictates how each individual stage should be controlled, including the way in which work packages are authorized and distributed
  • Managing Product Delivery, which has the purpose of controlling the link between the Project Manager and the Team Manager(s) by placing formal requirements on accepting, executing and delivering project work.
  • Managing Stage Boundaries, which dictates how to transition from one stage to the next
  • Closing A Project, which covers the formal decommissioning of the project, follow-on actions and evaluation of the benefits.

Exam Format

The official PRINCE2® Foundation Certification Exam consists of: 

  • Multiple choice examination questions
  • 60 questions
  • 33 marks required to pass (out of 60 available) – 55%
  • 60 minutes’ duration
  • Closed book.

PMI® Requirements & PDUs

For all PMI® certifications except Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM)®, you’ll need to follow the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) program and earn professional development units (PDUs). The goal is to ensure that your certified competencies stay relevant and up-to-date.

The PMI® requires 60 PDUs to renew your PMP®, PgMP®, PfMP® and PMI-PBA® certifications. These 60 PDUs are divided into two (2) categories: 

Category 1: Education Requirement: 

  • Minimum 35 Hours of educational completion certificate is required from a Registered Educational Provider (R.E.P) of the Project Management Institute (PMI®)
  • Out of these 35 hours, you must earn:
    • Eight (8) hours from Technical area,
    • Eight (8) hours from Leadership area, and
    • Eight (8) hours from Business/Strategic area

  Remaining 11 PDUs can be obtained from any of the above mentioned three (3) areas. 11

PDUs for this class:

  • Upon completion of all modules, videos, case studies, study guides and final exam, you will receive 20 PDUs certificate (Technical 12hours + Leadership 4 hours +Strategic 4 hours = Total 20) from ProXalt® for this course.
